WSA Financial Policies

Washington Shotokan Association (WSA) is a non-profit martial arts school that accepts all students without the burden of a long-term financial contract. This allows the students to participate in a cost effective program and to modify their training schedule in order to meet the demands of a fast paced and changing world.

When the student first signs up, there is a one time (lifetime) Joining Fee ($40.00) that WSA needs in order to process all of the paperwork and make sure that the student is placed within the correct class schedule. The student will be advised of the class schedule and the time and place of the classes.

Once the student begins the training process, there is a mutual responsibility on both the student and WSA.

WSA will provide a clean and safe facility, experienced instructors, and a consistent class schedule. WSA also needs to know, in advance, how many students will attend the various classes. This is done on a monthly basis so that we can provide the necessary instruction.

In order to accomplish this, WSA needs the student’s cooperation. WSA needs the student to commit to a monthly schedule, show up on time, and respect the instructor and the training process.

Over the years, WSA has found out that there are many things that will intrude on the student’s training schedule – sickness, other activities, vacations, etc. Some are planned and some are unforeseen. Any of these events may cause the student to “ not show up ”.

Since WSA needs to plan monthly in advance, we require that the student let us know monthly or 30 day notice in advance, in writing or email when they will be attending or not be attending the class. Email to: washotokan@aol.com

WSA cannot pro-rate any monthly fees. The extraordinary amount of administrative effort to pro-rate monthly fees would increase the monthly fees.

Monthly fees are due before the 15th of the month. The statement that we send out is not a bill, but a summary of all of the transactions that occurred by the date of the statement. If payment is not received by the 25th, our financial accounting system automatically charges a late payment fee.

The monthly dues are averaged out with all holidays, school closures and other WSA events – all taken into consideration to derive at the monthly rate. Some months have more weeks and more lessons than others – so please note & understand this. If there is a necessary need for makeup class due to these circumstances – you or your child may attend extra classes anytime!

Simply stated, once the student has committed to a monthly training schedule, WSA will plan for the student to attend the classes and the student assumes the financial burden of paying the monthly fee. Let us know, in advance, in writing, if you know you won’t be able to attend the classes for a full month.

WSA will do all that is possible to provide a rewarding and enjoyable experience for the student. We ask that the student respect our policies and come to class.
